“Real” athletes call recovery the period after a work out, when you help your body to heal and repair itself after the strenuous work it just did. I used to spend “recovery” stretching, drinking a lot of water, and sometimes, collapsing on the couch. Since having a baby, recovery has taken on a whole new meaning. 

These days, I get home from working out and I spend my “recovery” breastfeeding, making sure the dog has fresh water, or if she’s lucky, an ice cube, starting laundry, holding and bouncing a baby while singing a goofy song about spit up, or sometimes even vacuuming. If I’m REALLY lucky, I’ll get to take a gulp of water from a cup that has been sitting on the counter for two days.
