Does anyone know the words to that song? I don’t. And I am not going to Google them now. So sing it in your head however you really hear it.
So, Derek officially asked me to be his girlfriend on New Year’s Eve in 1999. Isn’t that insane? TEN YEARS. In fact, this is what we looked like then:
I was 21 and he was two weeks shy of his 21st birthday. We had no idea we’d be married, have a house, a baby, a dog, and pretty much be living the dream 10 years later. Within a month of this picture, we both knew we’d be married. I think it’s safe to say that what we’ve got now is beyond our wildest dreams. Life is good.
So this New Year’s Eve will be a bit different than it was 10 years ago. Ten years ago, we stayed at a friend’s house in Madison. Drank cheap beer. Got wasted. Watched fireworks on the back porch and stole kisses from my new boyfriend. Stayed up til dawn. Felt horribly hungover the next day.
This year, we’re going to a friend’s house in Bay View. We’re bringing our baby with us. We’re dressing up. Bringing leftover Christmas cookies and some yummy beer made in a local microbrew. We will not get wasted. We will not stay til midnight. I’m guessing we’ll be home by 10:30.
If we’re lucky, we’ll get to stay up until midnight (but probably not. Seriously, I rarely stay up past 9:30 these days). But don’t you worry, we’ll just count down to 10:30, pretend it’s midnight, toast and kiss. And then probably go to bed.
