Today you turn 2 years old. I started writing these letters to you when you just a tiny pink newborn sleeping on my lap.
I tucked you into bed tonight and was suddenly overcome with emotion. I feel so happy, lucky and absolutely blessed to be your mommy. I don’t know what your daddy and I did to deserve you, but we want you to know that we could never imagine our lives without you.
I tucked you into your crib with tears on my cheeks and said, “Goodnight, angel.” Just like I do every night. “Night night Mommy,” you said. Just like you do every night.
Watching you grow, learn and change over the last two years has been nothing short of an incredible joy. I remember when you were a tiny baby, your dad would say, “I can’t wait to have a conversation with him.” Well you have gotten so chatty, that we are having conversations with you and watching wide-eyed when you comprehend what we’re telling or asking you. You’re changing so much every day. And it’s amazing.
The day will come when your age isn’t measured in single digits. When there’s a “teen” after each number. When you’ll be 32 just like I am now. I can’t wait to see the day (though I don’t want you to grow up too fast, ok?).
No matter what happens over the years, I will never forget the moment you were born, when you were plopped on my chest, and you lifted your head and looked me right in the eyes. To me you will always be that sweet, gentle soul who loves and needs me. And I will always be your mommy who loves and needs you.
Happy birthday, sweet boy.
