Last Few Weeks as an Only Child

We’ve been incredibly lucky that we’ve had 3 years and 4 months to spoil Riley as an only child. I’m really thankful that we didn’t decide to have a baby sooner than we have. Yes, I know giving him a sibling is great for him, but selfishly, I’ve loved having him all to myself and the center of my attention for this long. Well, all that is about to change. Big time. As in, in 2 weeks. Give or take 2 weeks.

So, we’ve tried to make the most of these last several weeks with our only child. To kick off the summer? Swimming class! Big props to Daddy for participating in the class with him. Seriously, all the water would’ve splashed out of the pool if me and my baby bump had gotten in.

Do you think he loved every minute of it?

Um, yes.

We took a trip to my in-laws, who live on the Wisconsin River and had more fun in the water.

Not to mention that Grandma and Grandpa spoiled him with this crazy thing.

Despite his face, he was thrilled (it was waaaay past nap time). The thing has a radio. Seriously, I want one.

Then Riley and Daddy did something they’ve been talking about doing for the last month – camping in the backyard!

After an evening of roasting marshmallows, catching lightning bugs and staying up way too late, this is how I found them the next morning:

Um, yeah, that looks about right.

But ultimately, we claimed victory on backyard camping.

Riley – we love you so much and have enjoyed every minute with you as our only child. You are a special, happy and loving little boy and we just know you’re going to be an amazing big brother. Thank you for changing our lives for the better.
