So, it may now be official – I’ve gone hippie. No, I’m not listening to the Grateful Dead or wearing tye-dye. And it’s not my vegetarianism, my “green” cleaning products, or the cloth diapers that I used on Riley (and, well, hardly ever use on Charlotte – ain’t nobody got time for that laundry). It’s something I’ve been doing for the last month to keep my family and myself healthy. Aromatherapy with essential oils.
Let me back up.
The end of November and December were hard months for me. After two rounds of antibiotics, I was still sick with a cold and sinus infection. I was sooooo behind on Christmas shopping, decorating, baking and everything that I couldn’t even enjoy this “most wonderful time of the year.” That’s in quotes because we all know that summer is REALLY the most wonderful time of the year. Anyway, I digress.
It just seemed like I couldn’t get healthy and couldn’t be a good mom or wife or employee and I was just sick of it. I had to boost my immune system.
I read a bunch of articles and blogs online and some people really swore by essential oils for all sorts of ailments: sleeplessness, asthma, allergies, and much more. I decided just to focus on immunity right now.
The word “Thieves” kept coming up over and over. When I read about it, I understood why.
Thieves® was created based on research about four thieves in France who covered themselves with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing plague victims. This proprietary essential oil blend was university tested for its cleansing abilities. It is highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health.* (From youngliving.com)
I decided I need to give it a try. I knew NOTHING about this kind of stuff. But I kept reading and realized that I didn’t need to buy an expensive oil diffuser. Apparently, the bottoms of our feet have huge pores on them, and you can rub the oils on your feet, put socks on, go to sleep, and let it work its magic. (Maybe this is common sense, but I had no idea).
Young Living oils are kinda pricey and again, I didn’t know if it would even work, so I didn’t want to spend too much.
Enter Amazon. I read the reviews on this product:
For a fraction of the price, I figured I didn’t have much to lose.
Since starting using this a month ago, I haven’t been sick. Both kids have gotten little colds and normally, I would quickly follow suit, but not this time.
Granted, there could be other factors that made that happen, but at this point, I don’t care! I didn’t get sick!
If I notice the kids are getting stuffy or runny noses, I rub this on their feet (and mine!) at bedtime. Riley LOVES his little foot massage and usually giggles uncontrollably the whole time I rub his feet.
So for now, this is working for our family and I might look into getting some other oils or maybe a diffuser.
I promise I will not start tye-dying my own clothes, though. I promise.
